Judge James Gates
Judge Gates is a magistrate judge for the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina. Previously, Judge Gates practiced at Maupin Taylor (now Williams Mullen) as a trial attorney for 20 years. At Maupin Taylor, he handled complex business related disputes primarily in the areas of Certificate of Need and other health care matters, securities, corporate acquisitions and contracts. Judge Gates was also clerk for the Honorable Frank W. Bullock, Jr., a U.S. District Judge for the Middle District of North Carolina.
