A native of Smithfield, NC, Frank received a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1982 and his M.B.A. from The University of Pennsylvania Wharton School of Finance, in 1986.

Frank was elected Chairman of First Citizens Bank in February of 2009 and has served as the company’s Chief Executive Officer since January 2008. Frank has directed First Citizens BancShares and its subsidies in their continued focus toward a disciplined approach to banking, strong asset quality, a long-term perspective, and attention to the needs of clients. Under Frank’s direction, First Citizens has continued to grow and today the bank has a network of 347 branch offices in North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Tennessee, and Maryland.

Prior to becoming Chairman and CEO, Frank was elected President of First Citizens in 1994 after having served in a variety of other senior management positions in Charlotte, Raleigh, Wilmington, Swansboro, and Fayetteville.  He currently serves on the board of many organizations including Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina and Piedmont Natural Gas Company.
