Tracks

Campbell Law offers three elective tracks - Advocacy, Business, and Intellectual Property – to students focused on a specific area of practice. All students must complete a total of 90 hours for graduation.

Intellectual property track More ▼

Campbell Law benefits from its location close to the Research Triangle, home to myriad cutting-edge technology companies. Whether a student plans to stay in the Research Triangle or to practice farther afield, Campbell Law offers its students a variety of courses relating to intellectual property law that provide a student with the substantive and practical knowledge to be ready to practice upon graduation. In addition, students can engage in the Intellectual Property Track, which recognizes students who satisfactorily complete its requirements. The track prepares students to practice litigation, transactional, and prosecution aspects of the law relating to patents, copyrights, trademarks, and trade secrets.

Students electing the Intellectual Property Track must take IP Survey course and four courses from the list below.

Business track More ▼

The Campbell Law Business Track is intended to present the business law curriculum so that students may take a relatively cohesive package of courses, all of which are rooted in the business law context, that emphasizes substantive knowledge, analytical skills, and practical skills.

Students who elect the Business Track must take each of the following courses:

Corporations: From Formation to Major Transactions I or Business Planning
Corporate Finance or Financial Accounting for Lawyers
Income Taxation
International /Comparative Business Law Requirement
     International Business Transactions
     International Trade Law
Securities Regulation
Taxation of Business Entities

Business Track students must also take at least two of the following courses:

Advocacy track More ▼

Campbell Law is unique among American law schools. While the vast majority of the US law schools accredited by the American Bar Association offer students an elective course in trial advocacy, Campbell Law requires every student to take trial advocacy. Our justice system will always need lawyers who know how to properly prepare and present cases in court. The Campbell Law Advocacy curriculum develops those lawyers.

Students who elect the Advocacy Track must take the following courses:

Dual Degree Programs More ▼

In an effort to provide students with maximum exposure and preparedness for a wide assortment of career opportunities in fields that continue to shape the economy, Campbell Law offers five dual degree programs - three with Campbell University and two with NC State University.

The Juris Doctor & Master of Business Administration Program
Offered through a cooperative arrangement between Campbell Law and Campbell University’s Lundy-Fetterman School of Business, the JD/MBA programis designed to foster a solid understanding of both the law and the latest business management practices. Individuals who graduate with a JD/MBA will be ready to move into a wide variety of administrative or executive roles within the corporate, legal, government or nonprofit communities. This program takes three years to complete.

The Juris Doctor & Master of Business Administration Program
The JD/MBA program, a partnership with NC State University’s Jenkins Graduate School at the Poole College of Management,equips students with legal skills, ethical conviction and intellectual leadership, alongside a relevant and timely focus on technology, innovation, business processes, and practical applications. With a flexible and individualized program of study, the JD/MBA arms students with a broad understanding of a number of different disciplines. As a result, students are well prepared to serve as business and civic leaders in an ever-growing global marketplace. This program takes four years to complete.

The Juris Doctor & Master of Public Administration Program
A collaboration of Campbell Law and NC State University’s School of Public and International Affairs, the JD/MPA program was the first dual degree program of its kind between separate private and public institutions of higher learning in North Carolina. The program provides an exceptional legal education while preparing students to enter or advance in a range of public service leadership posts, including positions within legislative staffs and government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and academic institutions. This program takes four years to complete.

The Juris Doctor & Master of Science in Public Health Program
A joint offering with Campbell University’s College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences, the JD/MSPH program provides students with a unique interdisciplinary perspective of law and public policy. Graduates will enter the workplace prepared to represent clients, health organizations or systems, and serve in leadership roles in health policy at the national, state, county and local levels. This program takes four years to complete.

The Juris Doctor & Master of Trust and Wealth Management Program
A cooperative arrangement between Campbell Law and Campbell University’s Lundy-Fetterman School of Business, the JD/MTWM program is the only of its kind in the United States and provides the necessary skill sets for obtaining positions in the wealth management field. Graduates are recognized nationwide for having the hands-on training, people skills, and technical expertise to take their place as leaders in the financial services industry. The program is registered with the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc. and graduates of the program are eligible to sit for the national Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc. (CFP®) Certification Examinations and earn the certification. This program takes three years to complete.
