Reference Librarian

Campbell Law Library


Position: Campbell University School of Law Library is seeking an experienced reference librarian to join our team of skilled professionals. In addition to participating in law library instructional programs, the reference librarian will participate in reference desk rotation including weekends and evenings, conduct individual research consultations, write research guides, and participate in the faculty liaison program.


Campbell University School of Law: The Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law was founded in 1976, and is currently located in Buies Creek, North Carolina. On October 3, 2007, The University Board of Trustees voted to move the School of Law to Raleigh, North Carolina by the fall of 2009. The Law School will be located in downtown Raleigh within walking distance of the North Carolina Supreme Court, the Court of Appeals, the State Capital, and the North Carolina Legislative Building. This move will offer the selected candidate a rare and unique opportunity to be an intricate part of the growth of a state-of-the-art library. Responsibilities:

Reference Librarians at Campbell work as a team of skilled and experienced professionals to :

  • provide reference and research services to a very active and creative faculty and student body;
  • work actively with assigned faculty to monitor research interests and support teaching and scholarship;
  • train and work with student research assistants;
  • teach first-year legal research, conduct research workshops, teach advanced research classes, and participate in other forums;
  • create research guides and other instructional materials in print and electronic formats;
  • participate in developing the library’s web presence; and
  • participate in collection development.

Reference librarians are encouraged and supported in seeking opportunities for professional growth and educational improvement.


Qualifications and Experience:

Required:

An ALA-accredited Master’s degree in Library Science and a JD from an ABA-accredited school. Three to five years Law Library reference experience.

Preferred:

The ideal candidate will have experience in a law library in a university setting. This person will demonstrate exceptional written and oral communication skills as well as leadership and teaching skills. This position requires an individual with a commitment to service, outstanding organizational and time-management skills, strong supervisory skills, and a strong work ethic. Candidate should have knowledge of current information technologies, database and Internet searching proficiencies and a mastery of basic legal research sources and techniques using both print and electronic materials. In addition, the candidate should have a commitment to continuous improvement and innovation and the ability to work in a collegial and cooperative environment.
