The Career & Professional Development Center and Law Faculty recommend as strongly as possible that our students consider clerking. Speak to any former law student who has pursued a judicial clerkship as their initiation into the legal community, and he or she will tell you that it was one of the most beneficial work experiences. The former clerk will mention many positive aspects of the clerkship:

  • Sharpening of research and writing skills
  • Exposure to subjects within the law beyond the law school experience
  • Enhanced confidence in practice skills
  • Unique opportunity to learn the court system from the inside out

We sincerely believe that if you have the opportunity to clerk, you will be grateful for the rest of your career that you did so.

Career & Professional Development Center has compiled a Judicial Clerkship Handbook to

  • Explain the clerkship experience
  • Highlight the benefits of such an experience
  • Provide specific application information

The Career & Professional Development Center staff is ready to assist you in managing the logistics of clerkship applications and we encourage you to act early in your law school career as the positions are few in number and competition for them is fierce.
